Should it really take all this to make one man’s “Protein Shake”?!

Before I start talking about Eating Like David……how about hearing a bit about Eating Like Charly Kate Curry?  Look what our 8 year old daughter chose to have for breakfast 20130502-200110.jpgthis morning!  And, as usual, she personally chose everything you see before her!  Yeah.  I see the toast.  That is a pretty rare request on her part.  (In fact, I don’t remember the last time she ate toast.)  And, unless you wish to spike your own insulin levels through the roof, I would suggest you don’t follow suit!  But, the rest of what she has before her couldn’t be more perfect for your morning nutrition opportunity.  That is Wild Venison Summer Sausage sliced up there in front of her.  (Believe it or not, the Wild Deer from which it was sourced had not received Growth Hormone shots….or, antibiotics….at the little Deer hospital that they frequented during their lifetimes.)  As a result, Wild Venison Summer Sausage could not hardly be a better source of free range meat protein for your body’s morning wakeup call.  If you know a hunter, I suggest you start begging him now for some deer meat….like, a lot of it….when Deer season comes up this year.  (That is November, by the way, for you non-hunter folk.)  If you want to keep this stuff around throughout the year…..and, you should want to do that if you are going to Eat What David Eats….you better’d see if you can get someone to get you the meat from a couple of decent sized does.  (We will go through about 125 pounds of Venison Summer Sausage this year!)  Oh.  And, the Wild Berries that are sitting in front of CKC are organic from Door-to-Door Organics.  They are absolutely necessary as a part of your DAILY nutritional intake….Why? Well, the biggest reason for me is the fact that they are antioxidants.  And, that is not just a big buzz word.  It simply means that they are thought to REDUCE oxidative stress on your body…your inner organs.  As you will remember, oxidative stress is one of the larger contributors to the eventual death of your organs, your body….and, you.  And, as you may have noticed, I go to great lengths….as do all Age Management and Wellness docs and their nutritional advisors….to work towards the overall reduction of Oxidative Stress. So, there are not too many mornings that you will see David NOT eating a big helping of Organic Berries.  And, where do you get these berries…..since Organic Berries have not always been available year round……Door-to-Door Organics would be my first choice of options….it may be the ONLY choice for right now.  Get yourself on their weekly drop.  You have to have your order in by Friday of this week in order for them to deliver it by Thursday of next week.  Once you get in the groove, you are getting stuff every Thursday….and, chasing around all over time for the “right stuff” becomes a thing of the past.  (If you are not currently eating Organic, you may not know what I mean….non-organic “food”….and, I use the term very loosely…is much easier to consistently find at the grocery store than its organic peers.  So, I assure you that the discovery of Door-to-Door Organics has permanently changed the course of daily life here at the Curry House…..I suggest you get yourself some!)  My point is, folks….and, I have made it on numerous occasions in the past….that you should be feeding your children what David eats also.  It is NOT too early to get your kids doing the right thing.  The Standard American Diet is no more healthy for them (and their little bellies) than it is for you!  Let them Eat What I Eat.  It will do their minds, bodies, and bellies a lot of good!

On with my day……….

Thank Goodness, the CrossFit gymnastic coach that is helping me learn to do CrossFit Gymnastic movements…….like “kipping pullups” ……(google it)….was called out of town for the weekend to coach an Olympic Gymnastic meet.  And, he had to fly out early.  What I am getting at is that he had to cancel our session this morning.  In truth, my body was probably not gonna do well with another beating this morning.  So, one of my personal pet peeves…..last minute cancellations….actually turned into a GodSend…and, David’s day was starting to look better and better every minute that passed. I knew (deep down) that I needed a day of rest.  Make yourself a note:  You really shouldn’t exercise if you can tell your body has had it.  You are certainly not going to “build” anything on such days.  And, your opportunity for injury is probably a factor of Ten as likely as it would be on a day where you are not dragging your bum in the door of the gym.

With that in mind, I knew I could roll out of my bed and take a leisurely stroll through the pantry for my morning’s nutritional opportunity.  And, that is exactly what I did.  But, instead of doing something constructive….like making myself a veggie omelette, a IMG_5066bowl of organic fruit, and some free range pork bacon…..I chose to do a little work on  “bettering” my already incredible Super David Protein Shake Mixture.  As you will remember, I received a heck of a shipment yesterday from the folks at Living Tree Community.  Within it was about 3 jars of Raw Organic Cashew Butter and 2 or 3 jars of Raw Organic Cinnamon.  Since I already devoted a whole posting to the Cinnamon, I won’t bore you with why you should try adding it to your own Protein Shake Concoction.  But, I will give you a little reminder about the Cashew Butter just in case you missed the posting I wrote the day I received it.  (I started adding it to my Protein Shake mixture this morning….along with the Cinnamon.)  Why am I all of a sudden eating Cashew Butter?  Well, the age management and wellness docs out there at Rock Creek Wellness reminded me that Cashew Butter is a great source of Omega 9 fats.  In fact, it is unique in that quality when compared to Almond Butter.  The Omega 3’s definitely get all the press….for good reason….but, your body also needs the Omega 9 fats as well….just not near as much of them.  So, my protein shake mixture this morning had a lot of stuff in it….look at the picture……and, included in all that mess was the new addition of about 1/2 teaspoon of Raw Organic Cinnamon and about 1/2 Tablespoon of Raw Organic Cashew Butter.  I must tell you that the combination of all the old stuff with the new items was outstanding….and, David and David’s belly left that kitchen as a very happy duo indeed.  🙂     Let’s get on with our day………………!

Since I didn’t exercise this morning, my mid-morning didn’t result in quite the empty feeling that I oftentimes get………(Vigorous Exercise burns serious calories….more than sitting on your bum, believe it or not.  Don’t let anyone tell ya different!)…..But, around 10:45….despite not being famished….. I finally decided to take a break from the phone and head down to the kitchen for some additional sustenance.  I know you will find this IMG_5073incredibly amazing.  But, what really sounded “good” was the exact same thing I had ingested about 3 or so hours previously this very same morning!  So, although we had a bunch of cool, organic stuff in the fridge, I chose to grab all my Protein Shake Mixture making materials back out of their various little homes so that I could take another run at mixing myself up another little slice of Heaven.  Wow.  Should it really take that much stuff to make one man’s “Protein Shake”?  (Amazingly, those ingredients DON’T actually represent all the ingredients that currently go into my mixture……I added one more this afternoon……but, more on that later.)  Author’s Note:  I must tell on myself…just in case you haven’t noticed…..I didn’t take the time or effort to grab my traditional Organic Fruit Serving that I typically eat each morning.  I am not sure if it was because I didn’t think I needed the glycemic spike considering the fact that I had not exercised to lessen that impact…….or, if I was just too lazy to wash some fruit in the sink……..probably the latter……either way, I never made it up the stairs with my berries…….or, my Organic Tea for that matter.  Hey.  That’s because there wasn’t any in the dog gone fridge!  I will be mentioning that to one of the girls (via text) as soon as I finish this posting.  Tea is of utmost importance to my Belly’s happiness…..and, yours too!  (It keeps you from wanting for something else that will not do your belly good……..which is basically anything else liquid you could drink……. excepting water and black coffee!  If you want to have a belly like David’s belly, get yourself some Organic Unsweetened Iced Tea….and, make sure someone is responsible for making sure that your fridge is never without a fresh pitcher within its confines!   “ALIX…………………….!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Anyhow, the morning passed.  And, Angie eventually was able to get herself bathed and she offered to join me for lunch.  Luckily, she was in the mood for a little Grand Street Cafe…..cuz that was where my car was pointing….and, I had a feeling we were in for a nice surprise upon our arrival at their fine dining establishment.  And, I was quite right IMG_5075after all………Today, they were serving up a bit of fresh (Wild) Halibut….and, Happy Day, it was Pan Seared to the point that the outside layer is that crispy brown and the inside layers are just flaky white fish.  Just how my belly likes it!  And, of course, they were willing to trash whatever other side starch they had planned to pair with it in lieu of some seriously fantastic helpings of Pan Sauteed fresh veggies………squash and zucchini for me……..brussel sprouts for Angie.  But, before all that arrived, Angie ordered us another one of those mixed greens salads that we discovered yesterday with the basil vinaigrette dressing and baby tomatoes to get us started.  Wow.   Fresh Organic UnCooked Field Greens are probably one of the healthiest things you can possibly put in your body.  As you may have noticed, I eat about 5 to 7 such salads per week.  I would suggest you do the same.  (Let’s 86 the Croutons……nothing good is going to happen when those suckers start being assimilated into your bloodstream….I can promise you that!  Bread.  It does NOT do your belly good.  So, how about just not eating it?  Good gracious.)

After returning to work in my home office, I puttered along for a few hours…….until about 4 pm actually….before starting to think about a little mid-day snack-a-rooney.  Normally, it would be about time for my Organic Pink Lady Apple Slices with some Raw 20130502-200133.jpgOrganic Almond Butter.  And, that did sound pretty good.  But, Nicole was off on a grocery run or some such blither.  And, making it myself started to sound a bit cumbersome.  And, in truth, I had started getting the itch to put one more twist on my already fantastic Super David’s Protein Shake Mixture.  And, now seemed as good a time as any.  So, Protein Shake # 3 for the day was just about to hit the counter!  What was the new ingredient?  Well, as you can see from the picture, it was a very little bit of Raw Organic Chocolate Cherry Butter from the folks at Living Tree Community.  This stuff is actually very low in sugar…considering the contents that would be suspicioned after reading the Name….and, as I was soon to find out, it is very very good IMG_4954when added to anything else in slight moderation.  (It hardens in the fridge.  So, you will just be scraping out some shavings of the stuff.  And, remember, just a little dab will do ya….and, this is NOT for every protein shake you drink.  I will probably be more likely to add it to just 4 or 5 of my shakes in a week’s time.  I don’t think the glycemic spike should be too bad….especially since I am not eating it solo.  But, even so, moderation on anything that is slightly “off the path” is always good.  And, in this case, moderation is going to keep our bellies happy…….and, flat.)…………Onwards…………!

Tonight was to be a very special night at the Curry House indeed.  When I was in the kitchen making that last protein shake, I had noticed something that would be inclined to make just about anyone with any sense very happy…..that is to say, I saw quite a number of different packages of various types of ground meat sitting out on the counter 20130502-200158.jpgto thaw.  As you can see, there was Turkey meat, Wild Venison meat, and some Free Range Beef as well.  The combination of all of those together….mutually thawing on our countertop…..could only mean one thing……….CHILI!  When Angie planned Chili for today, I doubt she realized that she was going to hit a May 2nd Snow Day.   This is Missouri.  Not Canada.  And, we don’t see much snow around these parts this late in the year.  But, as luck would have it, we did today….and, still are tonight.  And, as such, chili….which would have been perfect in my book anyway……was really a perfect match for the climate on this unusually cold spring evening here in KC.  And, Angie was 20130502-200557.jpgactually making both her chilis…….a white bean chicken chili with about 25 different ingredients…none of which came from a powder or a package….and, a brown meat chili with about a zillion ingredients of its own (including Jalapeno peppers) ….that also had nothing in it that could be opened and simply poured into the bowl.  Angie’s chilis involve a lot of chopping and grinding and mixing.  Both Chilis that she makes have a little “heat”.  And, neither has an actual recipe that goes along with it.  She just keeps adding fresh ingredients (to taste) until she is happy with the outcome.  Oh. And, thanks to using only fresh organic ingredients and meat from animals that have actually exercised during their very healthy lifetimes, Angie’s Chilis won’t shorten YOUR lifespan.  I like that “mixture”….let’s call it “Heat and Health!”.  And, my belly does too!  After considering this evening’s fantastic culinary delights to come, I decided 20130502-200214.jpgit was a going to be a “Two Rock Red Night.”  So, even though I was down to only 4 bottles remaining of the 04 Two Rock, I opened one of the little crowd….and, shortly thereafter, we were enjoying it while I watched Angie making the Chili. (Sorry to digress here.  But, my wife has been eating Low Glycemic for a good 4 months.  And, she has been exercising since the beginning of time. So, it really does merit mentioning that it is fun to watch her from the backside working over the stove on her famous chili!  If You Eat Like We Eat, it will be fun to look at your bum sometime in the future too!  Just Do it!)                            Onwards……        I didn’t eat anything to “tide me over” cuz I wanted to save all the room I could for as much chili as I could cram into my belly.  As it happened, I was only able to get through one bowl of the white bean chicken chili and about 1/4 of a bowl of the meat chili.  The Two Rock washed it all down nicely………and, I was finished with another day of Eating What I Eat.

And, I bet you can guess that “nothing else was going IMG_5061to pass these lips tonight except the water from my BPA Camelbak Water Bottle”………..and, I hope you are planning the same for your night’s end……….If you do, your belly will be happy and flat too.  And, you will have finished another day of Eating What David Eats………..Success…….Over and Out!
