I am not going to go into all the reasons that prove the following statement.  But, rest assured: In relative terms to your peers, friends, and/or relatives, YOU are NO busier than anyone else is.  No.  Just stop.  You are not.

So, saying you don’t have time to fit consistent exercise into your schedule is really just your way of “copping” out of having to make that commitment.  Although Eating What David Eats will get you a long way towards home on that washboard belly, you do have to do some ongoing consistent exercise in order to get all the way there.  So, write down what you think you would like to do….or, are willing to do….and, do it.  I suggest you DON’T do the same exact type of exercise every time you have an exercise opportunity.  I break it up with cycling, crossfit, yoga….and, an occasional walk with my lovely wife….(those occasional walks will be a lot less occasional as it warms up here in the MidWest.)  …..Good Gracious.  I must admit to you that I find the fact that I am even having to write this paragraph rather frustrating…….Just do it, people!……..

Well, anyway, another day did begin today.  And, since my 8 year old is still on the picket
IMG_4327line when it comes to our previously traditional morning trip to Eggcetera Restaurant,
we once again ate at home before I ran her up to school.  As you can see, even she Eats like David Eats!  That is summer sausage she is wolfing down there IMG_4324sourced from free range (wild) Missouri Deer.  Her choice of Breakfast this morning.  And, she is chomping on a bit of Trader Joe dried Colby Jack Cheese with it.  (Right off the end of the Cheese block….the less processed, the better….although I am not suggesting you eat a bunch of it if you are still in the process of making your belly disappear….a little will do fine though.)  And, she paired it all with a sliced Organic Pink Lady apple from Whole Foods.  Great Girl.  Nice way to start the day.  Maybe staying home for breakfast wasn’t such a bad idea after all.  You can probably IMG_4325guess that I was too lazy to cook myself up an omelette….please don’t allow my poor example to be YOUR guide.  Instead of my protein shake, make yourself an eggs and veggie omelette.  And, feel free to cook the whole mixture up in a pan full of Real Butter.  I guess I can give myself some Kudos for the fact that I, once again, grabbed myself a bowl of Organic Strawberries….and, my traditional unsweetened IMG_4328organic iced tea….before I headed upstairs to the office to go to work.  (Please note that I did eat MORE strawberries than those that are pictured here!!)  Regardless of which of the two above-mentioned options you choose for your breakfast entree, please don’t miss your morning opportunity to consume some berries.  As you know, they are truly a fantastic natural anti-oxidant.  And, the earlier in the day you eat them, the better.  (Fruit is pretty highly glycemic…as you all know….so, make sure you are eating it early in the day…and, make sure you are pairing it with a good protein source at the same time so that the mixture takes its own sweet time making it to your bloodstream….thereby muting the spike that your body experiences to its insulin and glucose levels!)

Well, it was my normal time to head to CrossFit as I pulled out of the drive of our home at about 11:42 am…..but, as I headed that way, I noticed (via the magic of text message) that my dear wife was wanting me to join her for lunch and do my exercise later.  I called to make sure that she understood that I couldn’t skip exercise altogether today and that I would HAVE to go at 5:30.  She was up for that option.  And, as such, I turned my car north towards the Country Club Plaza and one of my favorite lunching spots….the Kona Grille…to enjoy some lunch with the beauty to whom I happen to be married!  I have spent so much time there over the past years that there are very few folks there that don’t greet me with two glasses of unsweetened (no lemon) iced tea when they come to the table to say hello and discuss my potential order for the day.  If you are Eating What David Eats, your favorite haunts are going to start to get used to the fact that your order is always going to be just a bit “special”….in that you are always going to ask them to replace any starchy or carby stuff that might have been included with your entree with a big serving of sautéed vegetables instead.  And, the more they get used to it, the better they are going to do on bringing those veggies out “just the way you wanted them!”  (Hint:  Sauteed to an almost browned stage in a bit of olive oil, real butter, and….hopefully….sea salt.  If they really don’t have sea salt, pretend it is in your own mind.  I am not sure if this stuff is legitimately better for you.  But, it sure sounds sexier….doesn’t it?  So, let’s always ask for it.)  IMG_4330Sadly, I must admit that we both deviated a bit from the straight and narrow path today for lunch.  My lovely bride LOVES the Picasso roll at Kona.  And, as the name might imply, its outer portion is indeed a “roll”….that IMG_4332is to say, a circular outer layer of white rice.  Not good.  But, she really wanted it.  And, I played along….figuring that the wild yellow tail that made up the majority of the roll was hopefully offsetting some of the glycemic spike from the rice.  The other two plates you see are IMG_4331two raw (but seared) tuna dishes.  Please note that we told them to leave the tortilla crisps off the dish you see to the immediate left of this sentence.  And, I assure you that not one bite of that stuff entered either of our mouths.  We simply grabbed the tuna and ate it on its own.  Is there anything better than raw tuna?  We truly thought we had ordered enough food to have plenty to take back home with us for a mid-afternoon protein snack of Tuna.  But, to our surprise, there wasn’t really much there once the dust had cleared on our little break from the day’s events!  (Now that I think about it, I think Angie did squirrel away a few pieces of that one Tuna Dish….I wonder what she did with that stuff!!!!)

SPECIAL NOTE:  If YOU are going to Eat What David Eats, perhaps it IMG_4333wouldn’t hurt to try to get your kids to start working towards doing the same.  My brother’s 12 year old daughter uses the words “low glycemic” IMG_4334numerous times  throughout her normal day.  She has “drank the Kool-Aid”….and, she understands what a glycemic spike is and why it is bad for her body and her belly profile.  And, in the last year, the transformation that has occurred with her overall “look” has been nothing short of magical.  All from eating low glycemic and doing a little IMG_4335consistent exercise.  Now, I don’t have our 4 year old girls exercising yet….in fact, they are not “in” to much of anything that doesn’t have to do with “dress up” and/or Barbies.  But, I do have the caregivers handing out snacks that are starting to make sense…..and, that the girls actually like….I just think that most people don’t think to hand healthy items to a kid.  Everyone wants to grab the most heavily processed sugar treat upon which they can put their searching hands.  Yes.  That is quick.  But, it may not be that good of an idea for “nutrition” for your growing child.  As you can see from the photos which were taken upon my return from lunch today, the girls are snacking on almonds and bananas and apples…..not “Fruit Snack” poison and/or whatever other candy could have just as easily crossed their lips.  And, THEY LIKE IT.  By the way, kids LOVE fruit.  Better than candy.  Please purchase organic….especially when you are putting it in your child’s belly.   It takes a little pre-planning….cuz it is perishable…..unlike the processed sugar items that will keep on your pantry shelf until they graduate high school.  But, for a little bit of pre-planning, you can be rewarded with the satisfaction of knowing that your kid is eating something good….and, good FOR them.  Over and out on that topic for now………..

Well, the day wore on.  And, as usual, I started to consider feeding the old belly around 3:30 pm.  I tried to tell myself that I could wait until 4 pm…..and, if you are not doing loads of exercise daily and/or you still have a ways to go on your belly profile….I assure Protein Shakeyou that right now might be a darn good time to fast a bit….or, better yet…just grab a handful of about 10 Raw Almonds and call it good until dinner time rolls around the corner.  But, as it happens, I do exercise vigorously about 6 or 7 times per week….is Yoga “vigorous”…..and, I am fairly okay with my belly profile….and, I was hoping to take a shot at a personal record on Front Squatting in CrossFit today (in about 2 hours).  And, I didn’t want to take a chance on going in there “under-caloried”.  So, I headed downstairs and loaded up with my good friend, Mr. Chocolate/Vanilla/Honey/Flax Seed/Heaping Raw Almond Butter Protein Shake.  Wow.  That was about my 2 millionth one.  And, I think it was actually my all-time favorite…..Wow.  How many times have I told my wife….or whoever else happened to be standing in the kitchen….that very true fact?! I love my protein shake!!  ((I know my wife has secretly considered divorcing me just from having to hear the sound (and ensuing discussion) of me enjoying that thing each and every time I ingest it….rapidly, I might add….whilst standing at the sink…6 inches from the spot upon which I just prepared it.))

Well, the moment we have all been eagerly awaiting has finally arrived: the Dinner Bell!  And, for tonight’s fare, the kitchen staff (Angie) has prepared a bit of chicken breast in a crock pot mixed up with peppers and Trader Joe Salsa.  Wow.  She said it was super easy…although I could spend the next 20 years learning how to duplicate it and never get there.  And, I hope you can imagine how nicely it pairs with a skillfully prepared omelette sitting on the plate right next to it.  Tonight’s omelette included 3 organic eggs (please stop buying anything but….taste one, you will never go back), some organic chopped onion (which I pre-sauteed in some real butter before I got going with the eggs), a splash of whole milk (cuz I saw my mother do that when I was a kid and saw no reason to not follow suit), and just a light splattering of some cheese that IMG_4344I had just grated off the end of that Dried Block of Colby Jack Cheese from Trader Joe’s.  After my wife helped me flip that thing, I put it on my plate alongside the chicken and salsa mixture mentioned above…..and, I threw about 6 or 8 organic baby tomatoes there along with it just to make my plate look prettier and my belly feel happier!  Oh.  Almost forgot….unless you are allergic, “dinner” should always include a glass or so of your favorite red wine.  IMG_4345As a reminder, red wine is a fantastic natural anti-oxidant.  And, google “positive effects of red wine on aging.)  I believe it does a body good.  (Oh.  And, finally. As a reminder, red wine doesn’t have near the glycemic spike of our old friend, Mr. Beer.  If you are going to have a beer…..well, let’s not get back into that whole discussion about pouring gasoline all over yourself and lighting yourself on fire….I think you get the picture.)

Another fantastic day of Eating What David Eats.  I assure you that the only thing that will be passing these lips for the rest of the evening is the tap water that is currently resting in my BPA free Camelbak Water bottle.

Out for now…………..!
