My First Day of Photographing Everything I ate!

Well, I have been saying I was going to do this for years. And, now, I am finally doing it!

I honestly know (as fact) that, if you will eat what I eat….(and ONLY what I eat….or, a little less (not more) should you choose), you will be very happy with how you look and feel in a period of time much shorter than you think you should expect it to take for your body and health to experience such changes.

Having said that, I will start my posting of all that goes in this mouth of mine with that which I ate on Sunday, March 10th. (Sunday is typically our day to have a cheat meal. So, don’t be surprised by what you see in today’s photos!)

I started my day…as I do almost every day…with my very tasty Isagenix Protein Shake. The recipe for it is in the recipe drop down on this blog. And, I will try to avoid going into great detail about how much I LOVE my protein shake EVERY SINGLE TIME I drink it. But, suffice it to say that is most definitely does not suck. As you will see in the recipe, I mix 11.75 ounces of chilled water with vanilla and chocolate protein, a heaping tablespoon of Raw “Alive” Organic Almond Butter (mmmm good), another heaping tablespoon of cold pressed organic flax seed (which, by the way, has 2800 mg of Omega 3 in it), and a nice little smidgeon of honey to give the mixture a bit of sweetness. Please check out the recipe for how to make your own. If you “eat like me”, you are going to be eating a lot of them. The whole mixture has almost zero glycemic effect upon your body. The proteins are all sourced from grass fed New Zealand cattle and are “denatured” only. ((That is to say, they have been processed to the absolute minimum that is possible…and, are therefore the most healthy (and costly to produce) type of proteins that you can purchase for your body. All organic.)) The almond butter is RAW. Not roasted! They actually call it “alive” and organic. All that is good in a raw organic almond is what you will find in this butter. Raw almonds are the ONLY ingredient! Cold pressed flax seed is the least processed form of flax seed you can buy. And, my honey is only organic honey……(no sugar or artificial sweetener goes into anything that I eat.)

Unlike most Sundays, I did not get to ride today. (It rained like crazy. Or, I would have been out there with “Daddy Dog” doing our normal 35 mile Sunday ride. Correction: This would have been a 70 mile ride today cuz Daddy turned 70 this week. And, all the cyclists in Eastern Jackson county would have shown up on the ride in support of our septuagenarian….who happens to be a nationally ranked cyclist in his age category….to do the annual birthday ride. We will be doing the make up ride two weeks from now. We ride one mile for every year that has passed since his birth.)

With the ride cancelled, I had time to drag my 4 girls to Kona Restaurant (www.konagrill.com) on the Country Club Plaza for lunch while momma got a little one on one time with her empty home. As you can see the folks at Kona know what it means to eat like David. And, instead of bringing me out a heaping serving of rice to accompany this beautiful piece of 7 ounces of wild Haddock, they knew that I would want whatever they had back there in the form of vegetable that could be sauteed in olive oil and REAL butter. My apologies. I forgot to snap a photo before I began to eat. By the time I took this photo, exactly half of the fish serving had vanished into my mouth. And, there were a lot more vegetables here before I started eating. Remember, you can eat as many vegetables as you can get into your body. And, I assure you that 6 minutes before this photo was taken, there were about 3 times as many mushrooms as that which you see here! Wow. That Haddock was just flown in on Saturday. Mmmmm good. (As a reminder, please always ask if the fish is wild or farm raised. You really don’t need to put any fish in your body that is farm raised. I will put the reasons as to why somewhere that you can easily access it. But, let’s not go into here while we are talking about the incredible meal I had for lunch.)

On with the day: After getting the girls back and headed down for their nap, momma and I headed back to Kona for her lunch. (I forgot to bring it back with me as I had promised I would do. And, it sounded like fun to go have a little mom and dad time anyway. She ordered some seared Ahi tuna….and, she let me have one little piece. There isn’t much on this Earth that is better than that!

Alright. Brace yourselves. I am about to share my weekly favorite cheat meal experience.

After watching Angie eat her late lunch at Kona, we went by LuluLemon on the Plaza (www.lululemon.com) and purchased some items that Angie felt she needed to survive….finishing up just in time to make it to our 4 pm Yoga for Athletes class. Fantastic class. The studio is called Element. (www.thrivekc.com). Sharon Prothe is the instructor. But, we won’t go into it here….other than to say: Yoga is absolutely essential for your body. And, it provides a fantastic opportunity for you and your spouse to exercise together! Do it.

After our Yoga class, we were both surprised that Angie did feel hungry. And, our cheat meal at Houston’s Restaurant was not “off” after all! Thank Goodness. I love the cozy feel at Houston’s. And, I love the food that they have to offer…and, the service…and, the lighting….I could go on forever. ……………Anyway, we always get a very similar meal on our Houston’s “cheat outings”. We start with the all-important best Spinach dip in the whole world. Check out the picture. I think you can probably nearly taste it. And, following that little starter, I usually go for a burger, a club sandwich, or rotisserie chicken (yes, I know that last one sounds a bit too healthy for a cheat meal…but, I love it!)…..all coupled with the best french fries in the world! And, I dip those incredible fries into Houston’s signature Buttermilk garlic dressing. Mmmm good.

God only knows how many calories and fat grams I consumed at that sitting. As you will soon grow to know, I don’t count! But, I knew it was enough to polish off my evening.

So, from 6:10 pm that evening until 8 am the following morning, the only sustenance that crossed these lips was Raspberry Iced Tea (unsweetened, of course) from www.theroasterie.com. I keep it made in the fridge at all times and use it without prejudice throughout the day….and, sometimes the evening. If the caffeine keeps you up, water will do the trick too.

ALTERNATE SERVINGS FOR THE ITEMS MENTIONED ABOVE:

For the protein shake: Eat an omelet. Leave the egg yellows in the omelet! And, put as many veggies as you like in there with it. And, since it was the morning when I ate that protein shake, feel free to add a nice serving of strawberries or blueberries alongside it. Wash it down with a little water or unsweetened ice tea. (Or, find something that approximates a healthy Kool-Aid…..if there is such a thing. I think there is.)
The fish for lunch. Are you kidding? Eat the fish! But, if you can’t, chicken would have been fine. Shrimp. Some lean red meat. In short, meat and veggies for lunch.
The tuna appetizer for early afternoon: a handful of raw amonds. You are going to be eating them a lot. So, this just might be an opportunity to get started. Macadamia nuts are even better for you…although they don’t have as much protein. (Their ratio of good fat to bad fat is the best of the nut community………period.)
The Cheat meal at Houston’s: It is your cheat meal. It whatever you want!
