Folks – I actually remembered to throw the Cinnamon Spice into my otherwise perfect Protein shake this morning. (I think most of us…like it or not….are creatures of habit. And, I have had a hard time trying to remember that new little twist.) Well, I did it this morning. And, as I had surmised, it did add a cool little extra hint of flavor to my already fantastic Protein Shake mixture…..you know the stuff: Vanilla and Chocolate Undenatured Whey Protein and Meal Replacement Powder sourced from New Zealand Free Range Dairy Cattle who have never seen anything approximating growth hormone and/or antibiotics, a ton of Raw Organic Almond Butter from the folks at Living Tree Community….(I love their stuff for the shakes cuz it mixes up better. Artisana Raw Organic Almond Butter seems to be my fav for just eating on apple slices or just by itself…something about the texture I guess)…..some honey, and, finally, a bit of bee pollen (just for the tiny potentiality of some unknown/mystical health benefit…and, cause the little round bee pollen balls kind of add a cool texture in my shake that I enjoy)….
Well, the addition of the cinnamon did add another nice new flavor to the whole concoction. But, as you know, I don’t eat much of anything for just its flavor. There really needs to be a potential health benefit for a food item to make its way onto my daily nutrition intake list….or, for that matter, for it to be ingested by me at all…period…unless it is part of my one weekly cheat meal. (And, I must tell you that the traditional cheat meal may not be long for this world. I really enjoy my “regular fare” more than my cheat meal. I’ll get back with you on that. But, which would you rather have: Spinach dip and a burger and fries at Houston’s……or, what I have for dinner every single night of the week? Get my point?) Anyhow, why have I been so eager to try to sneak Raw Organic Fresh Cinnamon into my daily nutritional regimen? Well, believe it or not, I cannot help being curious about the long history of Cinnamon’s believed potent positive bodily powers. And, the more I read, the more I think that NOT having it in my daily regimen is a practice bordering on imprudence.

Does that sound like something in which I might be very interested? Specifically, studies are showing that cinnamon actually lowers the glycemic impact of a higher glycemic meal by slowing the rate at which the stomach empties (partially into your bloodstream) after meals. The folks at Mayo actually recommend Cinnamon to their diabetes patients to help keep their blood sugar levels lower throughout the day. A teaspoon (about 4 grams) is probably enough to do the trick…or, you can also literally mix it with any food…. (especially if you are unwise enough to be ingesting something of slightly higher glycemic nutrition….oatmeal might be a very good example)……thereby lowering the glycemic spiking impact that would normally be associated with such a meal.
