If I left you with the impression that I am “anti-omelette” as a source of nutrition (in yesterday’s posting), this morning’s breakfast will probably quickly disprove that theory. Take a look at all the good stuff I pulled out of our fridge to prepare my Sunday Morning Fare! A bit of what was left of that slow cooker pork….I sautéed that first.
(I don’t microwave if I can avoid it. God only knows what that appliance really does to your food. And, until I really know, I stay away from it as much as I can…for ALL the family’s meal preparations! Note: Mark Sisson uses his pretty frequently. But, I just haven’t jumped on that wagon yet…nor has my wife thankfully. If you must use one, make sure you are not heating things on any kind of plastic…no matter what the plastic maker said about its microwaveability! If you doubt my word, spend some time chatting with a knowledgeable oncologist…like my wife must routinely do…and I think you will follow our lead. We have even replaced all our plastic Tupperware with glass (for storing leftovers.) And, if you must store something in a Baggie, the only brand that is okayed by the oncology community is “Ziplock”. Wow. This was a long “aside”…..sorry….back to my breakfast….
While the pork was simmering, I cleaned the organic berries and baby tomatoes, sliced the ones that needed slicing, and set them all on my plate. By then, the pork was ready to serve…and about two minutes later, my omelette was laying next to it! May I point out something about Eating What David Eats? Please note that David makes his meals look pretty. Good looking meal preparations are more fun to eat! And, by the way, what would it hurt to serve yourself with a cloth napkin for your lap (to use while you are eating from that pretty white plate?) I do….every single time I sit down to eat. Nutty, you say? I disagree. I probably enjoy Eating What I Eat more than the guy down the street eating Dominos Pizza out of the box….wouldn’t you think? (If you have doubt, you are welcome to ask my wife about all the satisfied grunting noises she has to endure each time I eat in her presence.) And, my meal didn’t end with a glycemic spike shaped like Mount Kilimanjaro (like his will.) Oh, and, my belly
looked like this twenty minutes ago….(despite the outrageous cheat meal I had yesterday.) What do you think the other guy’s belly looks like? So, who is the crazy one here?…..Make your food pretty! It does your belly good.
Wait. So, you are one of the folks that thinks that my belly is a bit extreme? You know what I have to say to that thought? If your belly doesn’t look real similar to mine, then YOUR belly would be the oddity if we were both living 10,000 years ago (before humans figured out how to start mass producing the crud that goes into the Standard American Diet. No. Grains, potatoes, rice, and pastas are not the only evils in the world. But, I will say that their near elimination from the Standard American Diet would go a LONG way towards making my belly be the norm….not the radical exception to the rule!)
Enough said on that topic for now. On to the rest of the day…………
Well, it was Charly Kate’s First Communion Day. And, I knew that we were going with the whole Curry Family to Grande Street Cafe for a late lunch/early dinner. So, something big for lunch was not really necessary. But, I really did feel like eating Whole Food…as opposed to another Protein Shake….so, I sliced myself up an Organic Pink Lady and scooped out about 4 bucks worth of Raw Organic Artisan Almond Butter and stood at the kitchen island and ate it all down….using a glass of Organic Unsweetened Iced Tea to
wash it down the hatch! Wow. Perfect nutritional opportunity and satisfaction of that opportunity! On to the rest of our very Crazy Curry Sunday……
After the First Communion….which was very very cool….we headed for
Grande Street with the whole Clan. I ordered myself a bit of pan seared Chilean Sea Bass paired with my personal favorite veggie combo….sautéed zucchini, squash, and onions. I unfortunately did not remember to take a photo of it until it was almost all gone….so, I will have to give you a file photo. If you are going to eat fish….and, feel good about eating fish….I suggest that you ask if you are eating Wild fish or farm raised fish. “Chilean Sea Bass” is wild…..I would assume. But, I still asked. Tilapia is almost always farm raised….so, is most of the Salmon you see on the average restaurant menu. It might be fair to say that, in general,
many examples of farm raised Fish are no more healthy than feedlot hamburger. So, next time you grab some from the grocery store, pay a little more attention to what you are grabbing!
Well, we ate late. And, I didn’t have much more room for food to go into the belly. But, just as I was preparing for what I might deposit in there, I got a text from the Owner of Sky’s the Limit CrossFit. (Ronnie Oswald). He Eats What David Eats….in other words, he eats Low Glycemic meals….I think that his whole family does for that matter. (He has probably been doing it a LOT longer than I have.) Wouldn’t that be a good feeling to know that you had your kids are eating stuff that wasn’t going to compromise their health now…or, down the road in their life? He was grilling tonight. And, take a look at what they were about to put in their family’s bellies! Sriracha and Honey Mustard Chicken Thighs and Legs! Very Spicy. And, very good for Happy Bellies!
Well, I doubt he was making enough for me….and, in truth, I probably didn’t have that much room left in my belly anyway. As it happened, our good friends and cross-the-street-neighbors (John and Gina Reardon) have a catering business. And, John had called me earlier today to let me know that he had a 2 pound Wild Smoked Sockeye Salmon waiting for me. (I had asked him about it a week or so ago. And, today was the lucky day! I am not sure what the seasoning was…..kind of a peppery thing. But, I can tell you that I did not dip the Smoked Salmon into any kind of sauce (for fear of covering one bit of the flavor he had already built into it when he smoked it.)) Anyway, I decided that tonight would be a great night to just do some of that Smoked Wild Salmon paired with some Wild Boar Summer Sausage and some Free Range Venison Summer Sausage….and, a bit of Italian meats with some Trader Joe’s Cheese. Oh. And, don’t worry. I didn’t forget my glass of wine….and, 05 California Cab named Sovereign that has been languishing in the cellar for quite a few years…….Mmmmm good. ((My brother turned his nose up when I told him how much we are eating of free range meat lately. He obviously has never tried wild
game sausage. If my 8 year old daughter doesn’t think it tastes too “gamey”, I assure you that you won’t either. It just tastes good. And, tonight, I sat there at the end of our island….attempting to ignore the sound of “the Housewives” on our TV….thank God that is a very rare sound in our house these days……and, ate every single last bit of that which you see on that cutting board….and, every last drop of what you see in that wine glass. (No. Not the bottle. I am more of a 1.5 glass per night kind of guy….and, you should be too….or less. More is not really that helpful to your belly……. or your longevity for that matter.))
As I sit here writing this, I know that the only other thing that is going into THIS belly tonight is the tap water that is sitting over there (with ice) in my old friend, Mr. BPA free Camelbak Water Bottle!
Another great day of Eating What I eat! Over and Out.
