Prosciutto……….oh, Prosciutto……….Need I say more!!!??? How about “Power Cleans”………..(Google It. They do a body good!)

CharlyKate was a little grumpy this morning. Wow.  How many mornings in a row is that?  Regardless, she may have temporarily burnt herself out on Deer/Wild Boar/Buffalo sausage for a while. Without a doubt, she was looking for a menu change this morning when her bum hit her favorite island barstool. (Sometimes, you may feel you need a menu change……just because I rarely NEED one doesn’t mean you won’t.  That is why I talk about what other people who are eating Low Glycemic might eat each day.  Options are good.)  Today, she ate her fill of Organic raspberries and Blueberries and chased them down with a few bites of Wild Elk Jerky from Montana. If you are gonna do the same, I would suggest adding a couple pieces of Free Range bacon to your plate…or, free range animal summer sausage. Or, an omelette with a bunch of Farm Raised Organic Eggs in it……(Jerky is great. But, it makes for pretty slow eating. And, I just don’t believe you are gonna be able to gnaw off enough of it to legitimately counter the glycemic spike from your serving of Organic Fruit.  And, since that is the real end game here, either figure out a way to eat a pretty good amount of that jerky….or, eat one of the other protein sources mentioned instead.  Fruit is good for you…….but, not so much by itself really…..If none of the above suits you, it sounds like you are going to need to make do with a serving of one of David’s Famous Protein Shakes too.  Just do it!  It will do your belly good.)

Anyhow, I did exactly what you have probably already guessed I did….I drank another one 04 06 around 4 pmof my Protein Shakes to start my day…instead of any of the fantastic options mentioned above.  Since I was going to CrossFit in less than an hour, I couldn’t get too excited about taking the time to eat some berries with it.  (That probably would have been a great idea by the way….especially with exercise on the immediate horizon.  We know that the exercise would have helped drain off some of the glycemic spike from the fruit.  But, regardless, I didn’t do it.)  And, off to CrossFit I went.  Or, actually, off to a personal training session with one of the CrossFit trainers, Kevin Kelley.  Kevin is obsessed with Olympic lifts…and, as such, we are spending a lot of our personal training time on the practice of such movements.  These movements make up a big part of the CrossFit curriculum.  So, I am not complaining.  I have never had individualized imagestraining on them.  And, for the first time ever, I am looking forward to pulling that barbell off the floor, popping open my hips to make it easier to keep the barbell heading North, shrugging the shoulders to keep it going….and, finally, flipping the hands over (and the elbows under) to catch the weight.  As you can imagine, these movements are “full body movements”.  They don’t really “isolate” any particular muscle.  They are meant to force the use of many muscle groups at one time …..and, towards that end, they definitely do work.  Google it.  (Don’t try it without a trainer…..or, at least, make sure you start with a very very light weight.)  ……………..Anyhow, as you might guess, following the heavy portion of the workout, we did a little metabolic high intensity, low duration exercise.   I won’t to into detail.  But, it took about 10 minutes and 30 seconds and I felt like I was going to puke at its termination.  (That happens a lot when you are cramming a lot of exercise into a very small window of time.)

GLYCOGENIC WINDOW!  That is right.  After you get done exercising, it is not a good Protein Shaketime to run by the mall…..unless you were wise enough to pack your protein powder and shaker cup with you.  No.  I am not kidding.  When you get done with a workout at the CrossFit box, you will see folks stop right where they are, break out their trusty shaker cup (which already has their protein mix in it), fill it with water from Ronnie’s water cooler, shake, and drink………..right on the spot.  Yes.  Your glycogenic window is THAT important.   And, mine is too.  So, when I finished my little slice of heaven there at Sky’s the Limit, I headed straight home and whipped myself up my 2nd shake of the day!  Down the hatch.  Glycogenic window nearly satisfied……..now, I just need some appropriate carbs to take advantage of that aspect of the window’s need for replenishment as well…..and, for today, since I didn’t feel IMG_4655like anything else, I grabbed one of those Trio Bars that a doctor in Vegas told me to try.  They are seeds and nuts and cranberries and a bit of honey to hold them together.  They are pretty low glycemic….although at this exact moment, your body can probably stand a little bit of a bump in that department….and, they remind me of one of those “Munch” bars from when we were kids.  The combination of the two items satisfied my glycogenic replenishment needs….and, it also made my belly very very happy.  On with the morning……….

When lunch time arrived, I could not keep myself from directing my car to Grand Street Cafe.  Why?  Well, the truth is that they are the most flexible about what kind of vegetables they will saute up for their old friend, David.  And, that is not easy to find.  (Since vegetables are a very important portion of your newly recognized nutritional needs, I suggest that you too find yourself a place that will put up with your unique desire to have IMG_4665them prepared to YOUR liking each day you are there.)  Oh.  And, by the way, their non-vegetable choices don’t suck either…….in fact, the Pork Chop that I ate today may have been the best pork chop that I have eaten in my lifetime…..(that is, not counting the 2 hundred other times that I have eaten this same Pork Chop here at Grand Street Cafe.)  Those brussel sprouts weren’t bad either.  And, the green beans….for a little change….really hit the spot. It all colluded to cause my Belly and me to leave that establishment with a smile on our collective brain!  I washed it all down with an Unsweetened Iced Tea…..if you are someone that cannot drink Iced Tea without putting some sort of sweetener in it……real or artificial…..I suggest NOT drinking Iced Tea.   Switch to water…try some lemon in it.  Dropping the glycemic spike that results from that sweetener….real or artificial….may be one of the keys to your successful elimination of that last few pounds of very attractive belly fat!  I know.  Lots of people tell you that you “look great”.  Face it.  People aren’t always truthful when doling out comments that are phrased like compliments.  Your spare tire is NOT cute.  And, I assure you that you would be the only one sporting one if I could back the calendar up on you about 10,000 years.  It is time to bid it adieu….and, dropping the sweetener in your tea may be one of the first steps towards that end.

Enough on lunch.  Just a few short hours later, I started thinking about a little mid-day snack for me and my friend (my belly).  And, just as I started thinking about, I heard Nicole making her quiet way up the stairs to my office.  (She was way ahead of me.)  My IMG_4666office door opened….after a quiet knocking….and, there was a freshly sliced Organic Pink Lady Apple arranged tidily (I think we all know how I feel about pretty food) about a small bowl of Raw Organic Artisana Almond Butter.  Mmmmmm good.   Another afternoon glycemic fruit spike…..but, as always, it was tempered with a very generous serving of almond butter (fat and protein) to counter balance the potential spike from the fruit.  I think it is okay…..although I cannot help but reiterate that it is a lot MORE okay if your belly already looks like my belly and your main concern is just your ongoing longevity…..If you are still trying to vamoose that little friend …..Mr. Muffin top……that you are trying to hide underneath your untucked shirt, I would suggest 86ing the afternoon fruit and sticking with something a bit less glycemic in nature.  How about some Raw Organic Almonds and a bite or two off that Wild Smoked Sockeye that you have sitting down there in the fridge?  (See.  Just a little planning ahead………and, magic.  You are in business.  Failure to plan ahead and you are looking for a vending machine or on the elevator down to the main floor to begin a little looksy around the building’s little convenience store.  Convenient for what?  ………..Perhaps reacquainting yourself with a couple of those pounds that you had so foolishly deigned to lose?  There is nothing…in my mind….very “convenient” about THAT!  Stay away from anything labeled “Convenience Store”….Those places are not known for their cleanliness anyway.  Bring your snacks from home.  To plan ahead for eating is to plan to be successful.  Just do it.)

Well, the workday started to look like it was tired of me.  And, I was definitely tired of it.  IMG_4667And, Angie had something special going on down there in the kitchen.  Time to head for the main level and see what little treasure she had in store for me (and my belly) tonight.  (If your wife does not happen to be a Culinary Expert, I suggest you hire (or buy) someone that is……at very earliest opportunity.  As luck would have it, I have the best Chef in the world living with me……seriously.  And, tonight was going to be an example of the proof in that pudding!)  The theme tonight:  Prosciutto.      For Starters:  The remainder of IMG_4668that bottle of 06 Earthquake that we opened last night…….and, since that bottle was not “long for this world”….we also started a pretty good run at a pretty good little chunk of the 04 Table Wine we still had….from Napa….. by the folks at “Two Rock”.  Not much left of the 7 to 11 cases I originally purchased of that stuff.  We are literally cherishing the last few bottles.  And, we both decided that tonight was as good a night as any to pair one with our fantastic dinner selection.      Salad:  IMG_4669Organic Field Greens with some sort of white hard cheese in them, a bit of Organic Baby Tomatoes, PROSCIUTTO, and a homemade “Angie” dressing….(one fresh lemon, 2 TBS olive oil, sea salt and a bit of pepper….allocate salt and pepper to your liking)          Dinner:  Brussel sprouts pan sauteed in olive oil, butter, sea salt….and, maybe some garlic…not sure; Served with Pan roasted chicken breasts that were wrapped in Prosciutto.  She had sauteed the whole thing in a bit of lemon and some other unknowns and this created its IMG_4670own very healthy Au Jus within which I dipped each and every last bite of my main course until there was nothing left of that which had started on my plate!  Now, seriously, I ask you for the 9 millionth time:  Would you really have eaten whatever you ingested tonight……or, would you have preferred to Just Eat What I Eat???!!!!  (I, for one, will take what I ate…..any night of the week.)

Oh.  And, don’t worry.  I am sitting here typing this all to you less than 8 inches from my trusty friend, Mr. IMG_4079Camelbak water bottle……….BPA free as you may remember.  And, that is all that is going to be meeting these lips until about 7:30 am tomorrow!
