A couple of notes about the recurring theme of “planning ahead” and having “the right stuff in your home for meal success”:
GARLIC: If you are not already eating a bunch of this magical stuff, please start. And, if you are cooking like We Cook, you should always have a lot of organic whole bulbs of garlic laying around your house. Remember, the fresher something is, the more of its nutrients are still going to be found in it when YOUR body processes it. So, although it takes a little longer to cut those cloves of garlic out of the whole bulb, the time you are investing will do your belly good….not to mention making whatever you are eating taste that much better. (You can taste the difference when something is made with FRESH ingredients!)
Take a look at what the caregivers came back with from the store yesterday. French Green Beans and Strawberries that were NOT organic. My apologies. But, the more I learn about what is legal in the world of food production in this country, the more my wife and I are insisting that everything we use for food preparation in this house is USDA certified “organic”. (And, for our meat, it has to be Wild and/or free range as well.) Sadly, the veggies pictured fit into none of the acceptable categories mentioned above. We truly debated simply throwing them out. (Our girls eat about 4 containers of this size of strawberries per day. And, if we had tossed the ones that were erroneously purchased, we might have had a full-blown mutiny on our hands. So, we did not actually follow through on the plan to throw these out. But, we had a chat with the
caregiver gals about how serious we are about eating only “organic”. And, I don’t think we will see this kind of labeling show up in our fridge anytime soon again.) I strongly suggest that, in addition to working on how your outward body (and belly) appears to you and your friends, that you also think a little about how your inward body looks as well. Eat Organic. Eat Free Range. Eat Wild Game. It does your body good!
ALMOND BUTTER: Despite being a bit of a food nut, I DO still have a few friends left that I have been unsuccessful in driving off with my rantings about Eating What David Eats. (In reality, I don’t throw out advice on the topic unless it is requested. Most people are only going to make a change if they WANT to make a change. So, the only time food advice is good advice is really when someone has actually asked you for it.) Anyhow, some of our friends were in for a visit from Idaho over the weekend. When my buddy’s wife….(incidentally, my buddy has been Eating What I Eat a lot longer than I have been Eating What I Eat….he is on the introductory dropdown of this blog)…….told me that she had purchased “the exact same almond butter that I was eating” for about $5 a jar from CostCo, I couldn’t help but perk my ears up just a tad. (The stuff I am eating is about $16 per jar. And, I thought I had researched it pretty thoroughly before determining that there wasn’t anything out there available….of comparable quality….for much less than that figure.) Please take a look at the two jars in the picture I have provided here. The jar on the left is about 5 bucks….and, it has about 33% more almond butter in it too. The jar on the right is about $16. They look about the same. What is the difference? The difference is that the jar on the right is full of
non-organic, roasted (dead) almond butter. The jar on the right is full of organic RAW (read: “full of nutrients for your body”) almond butter. If you enlarge the picture of the Organic stuff, you can actually see chunks of almonds in it. That is what Real Almond Butter should look like! Do yourself a favor, my friends. If you are going to bother to EAt What David Eats, make sure you are actually Eating What David Eats. Buy the jar on the right! Of the two options, it is the only one that has anything left inside it that has a chance at enhancing your body’s chances of making it healthy…. (and maybe even “cancer free”)….. until you are 100. Important
Note: If you REALLY love your inner organs….as I do….buy neither of them and buy the stuff from the Living Tree Community that David buys. It is about $16 also for 16 ounces. And, I promise you that it is as close to “alive” as almond butter in a jar can be. I eat about 2 jars of it per week in all those shakes you read about me drinking each day! Mmmmm good. And, belly good too……….
Needless to say, the few entries in this short post are nothing close to a definitive list of all the do’s and don’ts of “eating right”. More than anything, I am only offering them in the interest of possibly getting you to start thinking BEFORE you plan to put something in your belly!
Over and Out. 🙂
