You might consider 10 minutes of “Sprints” today….If you cannot run, do them on a stationary bike. They do a body good!

More specifically:  Running sprints causes your body to secrete MORE GROWTH HORMONE.  Naturally!  ……….Ever check out the sprinters in the Olympics?  Ever check out the long distance runners in the Olympics?  Now, I am not advocating that you try out for the Olympics.  But, which body type would you rather have?  Mark Sisson describes the sprinters as having glistening muscular bodies….I think he may have even compared them to the bodies of well-muscles race horses.  (Maybe that was just something in my mind’s description of them.  Either way, it is a pretty accurate way of describing them and their lean and muscular bodies.)  Yes.  It is possible that some of them may have put something in their body that shouldn’t necessarily be there….at least that is what the TV is always telling us.  Regardless, if you think back to kiddom ….and the sprinters with whom you attended school ….versus the distance runners at that same school…. I think we can all agree that we would probably rather have the muscularity and fitness look of the sprinters.  We may not be able to get our high school track days back.  But, we can do some sprinting every 1 to 10 days to get our pituitary gland kicked into high gear each night when it comes time to produce some of that magical stuff we call Growth Hormone!  Just do it.

Protein ShakeCharly Kate is still on the “I don’t want to go out and eat breakfast” kick.  So, that means I am eating my breakfasts at home….and, preparing them myself (since the kitchen staff….my wife….doesn’t wind itself up for meal preparation until about 5 pm or so.)  So, as usual, I had my Isagenix protein shake.  I must admit that there is not much in the world that I would rather ingest.  So, don’t lose too much sleep worrying about me and how many I intake of them in a day’s time!  Something about vanilla, chocolate, raw almond butter, and honey (all mixed together in a blender) really does my belly good!  IMG_4239
I did decided that I needed to add a little something with it….for variety if nothing else.  And, since the author of The Primal BluePrint states that a bit of steel cut oatmeal will not hurt you, that is what I decided to have with my morning’s repast.  (And, yes.  I did add a little dab of honey to give it a little sweetness.)  I think I overcooked it a bit.  It wasn’t as good as it normally is.

Protein ShakeFollowing that, I waited around til about 10:30 and
headed downstairs for another protein shake….same as the other 9 million you have heard me talk about drinking.  And, it was awesome…..as always.  No.  I do not ever get tired of them!

This morning, I had done something very unusual for me.  I went to Woodside Raquet Club and worked out in their traditional gym.  (In other words, I did something other than CrossFit for my load bearing exercise for the first time in over 6 months.  Why?  Cuz  IMG_4240I have strained my achilles tendon.  And, today’s CrossFit workout involved a lot of jumping rope…which I did not deem to be healthy for the potential healing process of my achilles.)  So, I headed down to the old gym and did a little chest and dips workout.  Thanks to that early workout, I was actually able to head to lunch with my neighbor….who happened to be on vacation.  And, I had that lunch at Grande Street Cafe.  Wow. Their pork chop is incredible….as I think you have heard me comment previously.  And, those veggies (sauteed zucchini and squash and onions) were fantastic.  Another fantastic low glycemic lunch!

As is my norm, I started to feel the need for something else in my belly about late photoafternoon.  And, thank Goodness.  We did have another organic apple waiting down there for me to cut into slices and pair with a couple of huge tablespoons of Raw Almond Butter from the Living Tree Community.  In case you have missed me say it in the past, it IS worth $16 per jar!  Wow.  That all went down great with a glass of organic unsweetened iced tea.  And, the day was continuing on its happy way…….!

I guess one might wonder if I really could not make it to dinner without another one of my famous tide-me-overs.  Evidently, the answer would be a simple “no” cuz I grabbed a handful of almonds to fill that position.  I must admit they were roasted almonds (as you can see in the picture.)  I should have grabbed into the Raw almond bag instead.  But, I must secretly admit that I still have not been able to train my taste buds to honestly prefer Raw almonds over Roasted almonds when they are eaten in anything but Almond Butter.  (Still, I normally grab the raw ones.  You should too!)  The roasted ones basically have most of the “good stuff” cooked out of them. So, they really act as a healthier replacement to chips …..which would be even healthier in the form of raw almonds.  Got it?

I love coming down to dinner to the smell of wild salmon sautéing in a pan.  This feeling of happiness is even further magnified when I see that my lovely wife has wrapped a bit of free range bacon around each piece of salmon.  And, although it is not perfectly “low glycemic”, it didn’t dissuade me from salivating over my upcoming dinner when I saw that she was heating a bit of pure maple syrup in a sauté pan to pour sparingly over our salmon when it was served! ………….But, before the enjoyment of all of that, one must always pick the evening’s wine selection.  (My nightly contribution to dinner hour.)  Remember 1.5 glasses of wine is good for you….1.5 bottles of wine is not.  A glass and a half of wine with your dinner may be calming for some folks….and, it is supposed to be somewhat anti-oxidative.  And, in my book, it tastes very very good with just about all food that is served after the hour of 5 pm.  Tonight’s selection was an 06 bottle of Oliver Hill.  (Australian Shiraz.  Those Aussies are very good at Shiraz.  And, the region where this one is produced…..McLaren Vale….is truly my favorite for this varietal.)  If you want IMG_4249some, you will have to find it and purchase it on the internet.  And, even then, it is hit and miss depending upon whether it makes it out of the country for that particular year’s vintage.  Good luck.  It is worth the search.

Take a look at the salmon and the salad that Angie paired with it.  Her homemade dressing….and, the above-mentioned wine….another great night’s dinner for David and his belly.

I guess I couldn’t stuff another thing into my body.  The only thing that I attempted for the rest of the evening was tap water and ice served in my old friend, my Camelbak water bottle!
