Missed my Exercise Today. I don’t love that! But, I did Love Eating What David Eats……Wanna see?

I won’t go into the how of me missing my exercise today.  But, in truth, it probably didn’t kill me.  I did some form of exercise 7 times last week.  Five of those events were load bearing (CrossFit.)  One of those events was a very brisk 105 minutes on my Road Racing Bicycle with the boys on the Race Team from Bike Shack.  (That was on Saturday.)  And, the final event was our weekly Yoga session on late Sunday afternoon.  That was a lot of variety in one week..SONY DSC..as is it always when it comes to exercising like David Exercises.  (CrossFit workouts vary so much that going to do CrossFit 5 times in one week simply means you did 5 very different multi-faceted workouts during that week’s time.)  What I am getting at….somewhat laboriously….is that exercising 7 days per week does not HAVE to be a bad thing.  And, in the case of my last week, it was not “over training”….nor did I ever feel beat down or, actually, even sore.  I really only wound myself up to the point of near death during two of those exercise events…..the rest were pretty medium intensity article-1035510-01F6B66400000578-643_468x815efforts.  How about it?  Do you think you could work that kind of load into your life?  How badly did you really need to see that next episode of whatever drivel you have been watching on the television anyway?  You think you could maybe sacrifice it for a bit of something you are probably really going to enjoy, that is going to make you feel darn good about yourself when you hit the rack, and that is going to likely extend the usable years of your life well into your 70’s, 80’s, and even 90’s?  (That is British Actress Helen Mirren at age 62 there in the pic.  Helen has never had any “work” done…..except all the sensible work and health decisions she had done herself consistently for the better part of the 62 years of her life.  Bodies like that don’t happen by accident.  They are the product of care……..do you care for yours like you actually believe it can be the equivalent of Helen’s when you are 62………..72…………82?

Anyhow, I missed my exercise today.

But, I did Eat Exactly the type of nutrition that will have its own tendency to be a life extender and a quality of life increaser.  As you might have already surmised, I did start the day with one of the most wonderful things in the world.  I hope after yesterday’s IMG_5237posting, you have actually given some real thought to trying my Protein Shake concoction as part of your daily calories.  At minimum, it could be used as a meal replacement twice per every day….thereby saving you time on food preparation and consumption….but, perhaps just as importantly, insuring that (at least for those two meals) your caloric intake was exactly perfect between protein and good fat grams….and, very little of the carbs that would have a tendency to spike your blood insulin or glucose levels!  (Even if I threw all of that out, I would still be inclined to drink mine for at least a couple of my meals each day because I FREAKING LOVE IT!)  Are you listening yet?  If you make your protein shake right, it does not have to be a pain in the rump to make it, it does not have to dirty up a real blender every time….(hint: only use ingredients that can be shaken up in a “shaker cup”), it can be very very satisfying IMG_5238and perhaps more filling than whatever you would have eaten in its stead, and it might be the most tasty think you eat or drink each day!  Well, anyhow.  THAT is how I started MY day today.  And, I washed off a a big serving of Organic Berries to eat as soon as the last drop of that shake had entered my mouth!  Home Run for David!  (Oh.  For those of you that have been concerned about my apparent lack of Iced Tea:  I went to the Roasterie this morning and purchased a “to go” cup of it.  $2.78 for a medium Unsweetened Iced Tea!  Wow.   Do you people really go do that every day to the tune of about 2 or 3 times that much for a cup of coffee?  And, for that incredible fee, you are given a cup of something that is going to spike your insulin and glucose levels to the moon….causing a subsequent incredible crash in only your glucose levels….followed by a brutal late morning craving for something else that will bring those bottomed out glucose levels back up to match your still elevated insulin levels so that you can start the whole cycle all over again?  Sometimes I cannot help but wonder……………………..)

After my morning-without-exercise, I was a bit off schedule.  And, I forgot to get something in the old belly before heading down to St. Luke’s to be present at my mother’s knee appointment with her Doc.  And, as usual, the Doc was a bit more than an IMG_5239hour behind schedule.  So, by the time we got in there….and, did a good job of asking all our questions about her potential knee replacement….it was around 2 hours from the supposed appointment start time.  Again, I hadn’t exercised.  So, I wasn’t really dying for calories.  But, I was READY to eat.  And, since mom was paying, a bit of Wild Fish from Grand Street Cafe sounded real good!  I decided not to feel to bad about ordering the Chilean Sea Bass @ $29 since I had just foregone the opportunity to make two hours of sales this morning…..and, also, because she said: “No.  Don’t get the chicken.  Get whatever you would get if nobody had to pay for it!”  Wow. I was not sorry after taking my first bite.  If you are going to order fish:  (1)  Make sure you are ordering Wild Fish…not farm raised.  Folks, almost all the tilapia and salmon being served in this part of the country is farm raised.  So, ask before you order.  (2) Whatever you order, IMG_5240have them prepare it “Pan Seared”…not grilled.  Grilled Fish just gets pretty dry really.  Have them Sauté it in something tasty in a sauce pan.  And, especially if you are not a regular fish eater, tell them to literally brown it to a crisp on the very outside layer….. top and bottom……. before calling it “done”.   Anyhow, I did all of the aforementioned.  And, take a look at the beautiful piece of Sea Bass that went into my mouth (and, soon thereafter, my belly) for lunch today!  As always, I told them to “86” the starch that would have normally been paired with the fish….I think it was a Polenta….and, instead, had them bring me a ton of Pan Sautéed Veggies.  I washed it all down with some Unsweetened Iced Tea.  And, in truth, I was happy as a pig in poo poo.  (As you can see, my mother wisely ordered a Low Glycemic lunch as well:  Oven Roasted Chicken on a Bed of Brussel Sprouts!  Way to go mom!  Maybe she really will be here to drag the triplets around Europe 20 years from now!  She loves to say that……………..!)

After returning to the old homestead….and, doing a bit of work……..I noticed that 3:30 pm had made its way onto my clockface.  And, thanks to that fact, I could not help but be IMG_5243tempted to copy and paste my standard text to Nicole into another late afternoon text to……..well…….Nicole.  And, within minutes, her smiling face did appear at my office door with a beautifully prepared serving of Raw Organic Artisana Almond Butter and Organic Pink Lady Apple Slices.  Thankfully, I had brought a “To Go” cup of Unsweetened Iced Tea from Grand Street with me after lunch.  And, I used it to wash down my late afternoon’s very health snack/meal.  Perfect.  (Yeah.  I know.  I should drop the Apple Slices and just have her bring me the Almond Butter.  But, I just haven’t quite made it to the point where I am willing to do that.  Might I just mention though that, if I do ever drop the apple, I will probably replace the Almond Butter with Raw Organic Cashew Butter from the folks at Living Tree Community.  Wow.  As you have noticed, I have started eating a spoon of it here and there.  And, I must admit that, for just eating by itself, it is actually potentially better than the Raw Organic Almond Butter.  Mmmmm.)  For now, I am gonna stick with the apples and Almonds.  I will risk the very slight elevation to my glucose and insulin levels from the apple in return for all the heart health benefits that I get from the Omega 3 fats…..( in which Almonds are so so very delightfully rich!)

About dinner time, I found that one of the nannies had sullied my wife on the idea of eating the fresh shrimp she had just purchased from one of our well respected local meat IMG_5248markets here in town.  My evening’s shrimp dinner had just turned into:  “Do you think we could get “carryout”?”  Good gracious.  Really?  Well, no sense going into the sensibility of deciding that there was no safe shrimp to be purchased to eat anywhere in this whole city.  (I believe our 23 year old nanny was pretty sure the only way to get it “safe” would be to live in a city that bordered the ocean………and, I think you would actually have to have your own shrimping rig and catch it yourself….cuz you cannot really trust the stuff you see at the fish market either.)  Anyhow, the point is:  I was not going to be having Pan Sauteed Shrimp this evening…..as my tummy had been tricked into believing for the better part of the day.  So, it was time to get started thinking on a “Salvage Plan” for mine and my family’s future health potential.  It didn’t take me long to figure out how the six of us could eat Carry Out from Grand Street Cafe……….and, it IMG_5250wasn’t long after that that my lovely wife was on her way down there to pick it up while I supervised the girls back at the house.  Angie and I both started with one of the their Side Salads with some of their Basil Vinaigrette dressing.  (I need to get the recipe for that stuff on my blog.  It is out of sight!)  And, everyone but CharlyKate had Oven Roasted Chicken.  (CK had Filet Mignon….like she always does.)  Angie had brussel sprouts with hers………I had brussel sprouts and squash and zucchini with mine.  And, I wish I had taken a picture of the new bottle of wine that I opened.  I actually purchased it at CostCo just yesterday…….as you may remember……and, although I would hate to admit this to friends, I drank the first bottle of it the very next day!  That is to say, one day removed from sitting on a grocery store counter.  Now, in all fairness, it was IMG_5241an 07 Napa Merlot from Silverado!  And, in even more fairness, I must truthfully add that it was a freaking 9.3 out of Ten!  In fact, the whole darn dinner was a 9.3 out of 10.  For Dessert?  How about a half Tablespoon of Raw Organic Cashew Butter right out of the Glass jar in which it is currently stored in the top refrigerator drawer?  Perfect.

And, as you can probably imagine, after a dinner like that, there is nothing else gonna pass these lips until tomorrow cept for the water from the BPA Camelbak IMG_5061water bottle that is sitting here on the desk accompanying me and my computer right now.

Another day of Just Eating What David Eats.  I hope you did so too!  Over and Out!
