Mother’s Day…And, an odd day of Eating (Kind of) What I Eat….Thank God for Yoga! And, our Weekly Cheat meal at Houston’s!

Well, today was Mother’s Day, friends.  We all slept in as long as the triplets would allow….I would guess that was around 7:45 am.  Don’t worry.  Angie and I hit the rack pretty early.  So, we did get a ton of our Growth-Hormone-Secretion Sleep…..We don’t do “Beauty Sleep”….although, wait.  Maybe Beauty sleep IS a good phrase for the act of getting enough sleep.  I mean, if you don’t get enough sleep, you certainly aren’t going to be beautiful for long, are you?  That is to say, if you don’t give your Pituitary Gland a sufficient opportunity to create growth hormone during the majority of the nights that you are on this planet….by sleeping 8 plus hours every single night…..you are not going to be beautiful much past the middle period of your life.  I, for one, would rather age very gracefully and slowly….Yes. I realize we are going to all have to wrinkle and weather a bit as we march into our 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s.  But, we don’t have to become a complete train wreck just because we passed a certain age marker….what is YOUR planned age to look like a complete train wreck anyway?  Seriously, that is WHAT you are deciding when you short your sleep and/or eat the Standard American Diet of high glycemic food.  So, how about it?  How much sleep did you get each of the last 7 nights?  What was your average for the last year?

Okay.  Off that soap box and onto my Day of Eating……….

I know you are all hoping that you are going to see some pics of me and the girls making breakfast for their momma.  But, let’s be serious folks.  Cooking with 3 almost-four-year-olds is not really a plausible possibility for the start of a good morning on any day.  And, I certainly wasn’t going to chance it on Mother’s Day.  So, even though I have nearly IMG_5220survived on Protein Shakes and Protein Bars for the past 48 hours…..(you may have noticed that I didn’t post anything for Friday or Saturday….and, I doubt that I am going to do so)…..I started Mother’s Day with another one.  Although I do love that sucker….and, everything that goes in it, I knew that was the last one I was drinking today.  (It would be a real disaster if I burnt myself out on the flavor of that thing since so many of my calories do happen to come from that concoction….and, they are easy calories, my friend.  Throwing together a protein shake….even with all the goodies that go into mine….takes way less time to prepare and consume than any other form of “food” that I deem nutritionally appropriate.  May I humbly beg each of you to figure out what your favorite  “protein shake” concoction is so that you too can use this for an easy and quick portion of your daily caloric intake?)  Oh.  And, regardless of what you have in your shake mixture, let’s also pair it with some organic IMG_5238berries EVERY SINGLE MORNING of the rest of your life.  All that hype about their antioxidative nature is actually reality.  Antioxidants are good, my friends.  They help slow and or reduce and or deter “Oxidative Stress” on your body’s internal parts.  In other words, they slow the aging process.  Now, is slowing the aging process something that can get you to make a commitment to eat those berries?  If it isn’t, you may be reading the wrong blog…..(this one is basically committed to that particular concept.)

After the protein shake….and, a little bit of hanging around doing nothing with our girls….I decided it WAS time to make momma some food after all.  But, without the help of the girls.  But, as it happened, Angie had already beat me to the sauce pan.  So, I let her prepare the eggs while I made some bacon…..about 6 pieces of Trader Joe Uncured IMG_5222Bacon….just enough for each of us to have a taste….and, a few eggs.  (Dang.  I ran out of Organic Iced Tea a few days ago.  And, Alix knows how to make it best.  So, I have been running on just straight water for about 72 hours.  Maybe that is what is making me a bit grumpy…tea is my only caffeine source after all.  As you will surely remember, the only liquid that passes these lips other than wine is, in fact, water or Unsweetened Organic Iced Tea…..period.  Ever.  Except for my one Diet Coke per week that I drink during our Sunday Afternoon Cheat Meal.  I suggest you think real hard about putting anything other than those 3 options up to your lips also.  If you are still drinking beer, please allow me to once again remind you that its glycemic index is 10% higher than that of actual table sugar.  That is right.  Beer spikes your insulin levels higher than drinking liquified sugar!  Does that sound good to you?  It doesn’t to me.  And, as such, I haven’t had a beer that I can remember since a bit before Christmas.)  Anyhow, we all had some eggs and bacon and sent on about our special morning of doing basically nothing.  Just us and our girls.

As you may know…if you are the parent of a hoard….CostCo is about as good a place as any to go with your children.  And, that is where we spent the next bit of our day.  A little aside here:  CostCo sells their wine for 8% over their cost.  And, their cost is about as low IMG_4450as low can get thanks to the large amount of wine they purchase as a unit.  So, if you drink a bit of wine every night….like Angie and I do….(and, like ALL the docs at Cenegenics do)….CostCo might be a good place for you to get used to frequenting.  FreeMark Abbey Merlot, Franciscan Merlot, Napa Merlot……all of these are under $20 per bottle.  And, none of them are something that you would be afraid to open for any guests that were arriving.  Great table wine purchases.  Check it out!

After CostCo, we should have ran by Grand Street and grabbed some Oven Roasted Chicken take-out for our arrival back home.  But, I allowed Angie to make that decision…..with it being Mother’s Day and all.  And, unfortunately, she didn’t get around IMG_5224to deciding until it was too late to make it work into our return time schedule.  (We needed to get the groceries to a refrigerator.)  So, I know this is going to seem odd…..But, I got the sauce pans going again and started on an omelette and bacon….again.  But, this time, I made myself 3 pieces of bacon and a 4 egg omelette with shredded organic Colby cheese over the top of it.  I threw a little salsa on the plate next to it all.  But, in truth, it ended up just being “decor” cuz it really didn’t taste that good….still, it did look good on the plate.  And, as you all know, I do like a pretty plate!  Food should look good….it makes one enjoy eating it that much more….right?  Oh.  And, don’t fail to notice that I threw another thing of Organic Blue Berries there next to my plate in that little schooner thing.  I don’t usually eat two helpings of Organic Berries in a day’s time.  (They are pretty  high in natural sugars really.)  But, it was only about 1:30.  And, I decided that it was highly doubtful it was going to kill me…..and, I liked the pretty blue color as the final piece of my lunch’s picture I was about to take!

I guess that was about all I ate prior to heading for our Sunday afternoon Yoga.  And, wow.  Yoga was great.  I am not sure if Sharon Prothe is psychic.  But, she did our whole class today on things that centered around hip mobility and hip stretching.  And, as it happened, that was exactly what Angie and I would have offered as our biggest current complaint if the question had been put to us.  It was awesome….as it always is….and, as always, we left there with very big smiles on our faces!  Oh.  And, for the 9 millionth time, we each agreed that we wished we could squeeze another Yoga event into each of our weeks…..but, we also agreed that there was nowhere else where we could steal the time.  So, we will have to just be VERY happy that we do get to go once per week…..and, that that one time happens to be instructed by Sharon in her Yoga for Athletes Type of Class!

After Yoga, we always have our Weekly Cheat Meal.  You know that I am not exaggerating 20130428-182102.jpgabout only having one Cheat Meal per week because you truly see every single morsel of anything that goes into my mouth during a week’s time.  You know that this meal is literally pretty much the ONLY time I EVER cheat on my style of Low Glycemic Eating.  No joke.  I just don’t have the urge or the craving.  And, I guess that, if I did feel a craving for something that was going to spike my insulin levels, it would probably be squashed by my rational desire to only eat in a manner that I know will likely increase my longevity and quality of the life I enjoy
during my highly probable long lifespan.  Having said all of that, we do look forward to IMG_4055our Sunday Afternoon Cheat Meal.  I would have to say that it is probably just as much the environment as the actual food.  We love the cozy feel of Houston’s Restaurant.  And, we LOVE their signature Spinach and Artichoke Dip!  We each had a Soda, the dip, and a burger and fries…..Oh.  And, we both dipped those fries in that Houston’s Buttermilk Garlic Dip.  Wow.  Pretty much the same thing every Sunday afternoon.  And, I don’t think I will ever grow tired of it!

And, as always, I come out of that joint knowing that I will not be wanting for anything else until the following day.  But, on this rare exception, I was actually wrong.  We busted it on home so we could grab the girls and head for the park.  But, they wanted to have some ice cream to take with them.  And, you know what?  I wanted some too.  So, in addition to the other cones being ordered, I ordered myself a single scoop cone of Praline IMG_5225and Cream and prepared myself for a rare treat.  (If I want something like that, I get it.  I almost never even feel the desire for the stuff in the first place.  And, as careful as I am about not spiking my insulin/glucose levels 97% of the time, I know that an ice cream cone right after my cheat meal isn’t that big of a deal.)  Admittedly, I doubt I will have another one anytime soon.  (The only thing that would have been better is if they had had Butter Brickle…….mmmmmm.  THAT is good stuff.)

Another Day of Eating What David Eats.  I hope you did the same!

Over and Out.  (I will have to put pics in tomorrow.  Angie says it is time to hit the rack.)
