Wanna be Fit and Healthy? I suggest that you Plan Ahead for your Nutrition! Oh. And, Check out my New Stuff!

Okay – I am going to have to back up a bit on my Tuesday’s proclamation regarding Kipping Pullups.  I do NOT have them whooped.  In fact, after today’s session with Carl, I am inclined to state that I am nearly all the way back at the wipe-the-slate-clean “drawing board”.  I won’t go into all the boring details regarding my morning’s failures.  But, I will offer this:  The moral of the story is that I am not better at exercise or fitness than you are.  And, in fact, when it comes to CrossFit, I am a bit of a slow learner….compared to my peers….even my sister-in-law (who is close to my same age) is picking up Double Under Jump Roping in her first 3 months of CrossFit.  I am 8 months into this little journey, I am still struggling with them….and, a whole host of other CrossFit exercises.  In short, exercise requires EFFORT, my friends.  If you really are not making a consistent effort comparable to that which you see me making, then you are making your own bed…..and, quite frankly, you have to sleep in it.  Fitness takes time and consistency and effort……Oh.  And, you gotta Just Eat What David Eats also!

Oh.  One more thing before I go on to the next comments.  I got my first prototype shirt 20130509-213658.jpgin the mail today from the fine folks at Zazzles.  Take a look.  It still needs some work.  (I am going to move the front lettering up higher on the shirt and I am going to highlight the backside lettering in a bit of 20130509-213802.jpgwhite (to match the front lettering.)  But, in general, I love this thing………and, I may have 20 of them made and wear it every single day of the week as my uniform until the whole world stops not being Healthy and Lean.  Not kidding!

Now, on to one of my near and dear favorite topics:  Planning ahead’s role in good nutrition.  I know I have said it a million times on this blog.  But, I am gonna have to say it again.  If you are going to be successful with your 20130509-212354.jpgnutritional intake, it is going to require consistent future planning so that the right food is available to you to eat at ALL times when it is time to eat something.  I think that, by now, you know that I take my own exercise and nutrition advice very seriously…..and, I follow it pretty close to the letter…..And, planning ahead is one of my most serious fortes.  That is because I know how important it is to NOT run out of good nutritional choices.  I “stock up” folks…….I have a back up to the back up of just about every food option that I eat on a regular basis. And, today, some of the “Backups” happened to arrive.  What were they?  You guessed it.  Another full case (12 jars) of Living Tree Community Raw Organic Almond Butter.  That is about $200 of almond butter.  And, I assure you that I will enjoy every single spoonful of it…..that is to say, someone in the Curry Family will do so.  (We all eat.  And, we all love it.)  As a reminder, I like to eat Artisana Organic Almond Butter when it is not going in my Protein Shakes……no worries.  I have about 4 Jars of that laying around here as well.  Remember, always refrigerate your almond butter after you have opened it!  Other items to always have on hand are Organic Berries (Door-to-Door Organics) and a bit of Organic Iced Tea….since it and water basically represent your only two “safe” drinking option following your Morning Coffee (black, by the way……we have already gone over the whole sugar and sweetener thing in an earlier posting….in short, you can safely have neither….unless you want to start your day with a wild uphill glycemic spike followed by a resulting blood glucose level crash….followed by midmorning cravings for another blood glucose spike….and, so on and so on.)

Enough on the aforementioned.  Time to eat.  And, as you have already guessed, I started the day with my all-time Favorite Protein Shake before I headed off to my demoralizing 20130509-212247.jpgfitness training session.  Let’s recap the current ingredients for those of you that have not been following along:  1.85 scoops of IsaPro Pure Undenatured Whey Protein sourced from grass fed New Zealand dairy cattle which were hormone free and antibiotic free, .9 scoop of chocolate meal replacement protein powder from the same cows, 3 tablespoons of Raw Organic Flax Seed (single cold pressed, please), 1/2 teaspoon of Raw Organic Cinnamon to ease any glycemic spike that might be associated with any part of my shake, a teaspoon of Locally Sourced Bee Pollen from the folks at Cooper Honey to do whatever it is that locally sourced bee pollen is supposed to do, 1.5 tablespoons of Raw Organic Almond Butter which is rich in Omega 3 fat for David’s ticker, .7 of a tablespoon of Raw Organic Cashew Butter which is rich in Omega 9 fat, and, finally, 3/4 of a Teaspoon of Locally sourced honey (cuz I love it.)  Yes.  It has started to take a pretty decent amount of time to mix all of that up in my shaker cup.  (I don’t use a blender.  It isn’t necessary.  But, a big spoon for some “after stirring” is a necessity for sure.)  And, might I also add that, whatever effort I do invest on my Protein Concoction is very well placed.  I love these suckers…..and, so does my belly.  And, you know what?  I think they love me too!  That was my 2 millionth one.  And, I loved every single drop!

Following my return from CrossFit, I slammed down another protein shake and went to 20130509-212300.jpgthe fridge to get some Organic Berries.  I was very saddened to see that the nannies had made the “executive decision” to throw out what was left of the berries….since they were a tad old…and, since the new ones were arriving today from door-to-door Organics.  As a result, there were no berries for David…..or, David’s belly….and, I started my day in the office on a very unhappy note.

But, things looked up at lunch as I headed for Grand Street Cafe with Fish on my mind.  Darn.  No fish special today.  And, I know this is hard for you to believe.  But, I am still not willing/able to toss out $29 plus tax and tip (daily) for the Chilean Sea
20130503-221301.jpgBass….although it is exceptional for those of you that are on an expense account!  (Try it.) So, since I knew I was eating red meat tonight, I had to come up with another heart healthy option for my lunch.  And, as you may have guessed, I chose the Sauteed Shrimp with Zucchini and Squash….again.  And, once again, it was freaking awesome.  (Please be advised that I did my very best to not make any groaning sounds while I ate it.  My wife, who I had allowed to join me, does not like or appreciate those sounds….even when I am making them in appreciation of HER cooking!)  In truth, although I loved MY food at lunch, I actually think my wife did the better job of ordering…..again.  She got the Oven Roasted Chicken served in its own 20130503-221251.jpgAu Jus (and whatever else that juice is) over a bed of Brussel Sprouts.  It was so darn good…..luckily, she took pity on me and allowed me to have a few of the Brussel Sprouts…..I didn’t even have to beg.  Oh.  Almost forgot.  We started it all off with a mixed green side salad that we had them split with a Basil Vinaigrette over the top of it.  Remember to eat your greens, folks.  They do a body good. Very anti oxidative!

Back at the office, I started noticing some serious emptiness around 3:30.  I know you think this is “just in my head”.  But, it really is not.  If you are going to go burn a gazillion calories in the morning doing load bearing activity, please expect to get hungrier than normal all day long.  Why?  Cuz your body keeps on at a higher metabolic rate after short duration, high intensity load bearing activity than it does after any kind of aerobic-only activity.  In other words, AFTER you 20130509-212312.jpgare done with CrossFit or similar, your body stays in high “burn” gear for hours to come.  And, my apologies for giving a bit too much information here.  But, when I do CrossFit in the mornings, I often have to re-TShirt myself one or two times before I head for lunch…..Yes.  I take a shower upon returning home from CrossFit, you ninny.  But, my body runs at a higher temperature for hours to come.  And, the resulting sweat is not an acceptable lunch companion.  Sorry.  Had to tell it all.  The proof is in the pudding.  Anyhow, the lovely Alix was kind enough to bring me a big helping of Almond Butter and Apple Slices to appease my hunger…..and, since she isn’t the one who normally brings it, I did not even berate her for NOT putting the almond butter in a little bowl on the side like I normally enjoy seeing it served.  (I am not crazy.  Look at it.  Does that look appetizing to you the way it is laying there on the plate?  What does that remind YOU of?!!)

I survived the deviation from my normal Almond Butter eating routine and made it on to the dinner hour.  Angie was cooking up beef tacos using Organic Bibb Lettuce as the shell.  20130509-212334.jpg(If you Eat Like I Eat, you DON’T eat the regular taco shells, of course.)  And, I had made the very poor decision to NOT go along with that dinner plan.  So, she had had one of the girls run to McGonigles and get me some “Burnt Ends” for my dinner.  And, she had paired it with a beautiful salad made from Organic Girls Field Greens, the basil vinagerette dressing (which she had stolen from Grand Street….the recipe, that is), and some blue cheese crumbles.  In truth, mine was great.  But, as usual, what she had made up out of the figment of her imagination was fantastic.  Lesson learned.  Never fail to accept whatever she says “we” IMG_5148are having for dinner.  Thank Goodness for the remainder of the bottle of the 01 Sawyer Napa Meritage that we had opened night before last….it made up for any failings that my choice of evening’s fare may have had!  Oh.  And, I even allowed myself a few bites of 70% Dark Chocolate to assuage the mental pain I had had to endure from the whole dinner disaster.  ….Mmmmm.  That wasn’t too bad.  (I am not 20130509-212345.jpga big chocolate eater.  But, if I want some, I have it.  And, tonight was evidently the night.)

I think you can guess the rest.  But, in case you cannot:  There is nothing else that is going to pass these lips tonight…….except the water from my trusty BPA free IMG_5061Camelbak Water Bottle!

Another day of “Just Eating What I Eat” successfully in the books.
